Principal Message

Thank you to all the families who came out the author night offered in April.  Everyone appeared to enjoy the stories and the STEAM activities that followed.  Our movie night was very successful and everyone appeared to enjoy the movie.  Thank you to all the families who supported the Rocky Mountain fundraiser. It is hard to believe that we are moving into the last two months of this school year.  We have many sports teams starting up including soccer, baseball and track  and field.  We know all of these teams will represent Huron Park well.

Spring Concert

Our Spring Concert will take place on May 27.  There will be one show that begins at 12:30 and one show that begins at 6:00.  A ticket request form will be sent home shortly.  All families will be offered 4 tickets maximum to see the performances.  The tickets will be able to be divided up between shows.  For students returning for the evening show, we would ask that they arrive to the school by 5:45.  Students will know where they are supposed to go once they arrive for the evening performance.

School Council Meeting

The final school council meeting will take place on May 4 at 5:30pm.  The meeting will be held in the library.

Welcome to Kindergarten Open House

We are excited to be hosting Welcome to Kindergarten on May 26 from 4-5 pm.  We look forward to welcoming our new Junior Kindergarten students as they come and visit the Kindergarten rooms.  Invitations are sent to those families who have already registered for kindergarten.  If you have not registered yet, please go the SCDSB website to register.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Fundraiser

Our Rocky Mountain Chocolate Fundraiser is underway.  Thank you to those families who have already supported the fundraiser.  Funds raised from this fundraiser will go towards the year end celebration that all of our students will participate in.  You are able to order through cashonline until May     .  Items will be ready for pickup on May

A Request from the Kindergarten Teachers

The Kindergarten Team is looking to enhance their outdoor sandbox area to support more creative, open-ended play for the children. Items like metal utensils and kitchen tools can spark imagination, problem-solving, and collaborative play.

If you have any gently used items you no longer need, we would greatly appreciate donations such as:

•           Metal spoons, spatulas, and ladles

•           Mixing bowls (plastic or metal)

•           Muffin tins

•           Pots and pans

These materials will be used in the sandbox for digging, scooping, pouring, and pretend play.

Please ensure that any items are clean and safe for children (no sharp edges or breakable materials).

Thank you for helping us create a rich, engaging outdoor learning space!

Rubber Ducky Frenzy!

This is the month you’ve all been waiting for as Rubber Ducks return to the halls and classrooms at Huron Park.  Students will find Rubber Ducks hidden throughout the school and turn them into their teachers.  The class that has found the most Rubber Ducks at the end of Rubber Duck Frenzy will win a prize.  The ducks will land sometime during the month of May. Keep your eyes out for them.

Library News

Once again the Huron Park school community has helped to make our second book fair of the year a roaring success. Since this was our second fair of the year, for every $10.00 spent at the book fair our school was able to choose $5.00 in free books. This means that we were able to purchase a copy all of the books that were on display (that were appropriate and we did not already have). So if you had your eye on a book and didn’t get a chance to buy it, have your student look for it in the library, once they are catalogued.

Battle of the Books

The Hornets have been buzzing through books and building their reading power! Our Battle of the Books team has been working hard, reading, discussing, and preparing for competition. They will be representing our school at the Battle of the Books at the Midland Public Library on Wednesday, May 20. Go Hornets!
